The port of Santander invests €16 million in a new car silo

  • The total investment for the 2020-2024 period will exceed €107 million.

14-10-2020 (Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda) The President of Puertos del Estado, Francisco Toledo, held a meeting yesterday through videoconference with Jaime González and Santiago Díaz, President and Director, respectively, of the Santander Authority, where they agreed on the 2020-2024 Business Plan, a period during which €107.2 million will be invested.

One of the main actions to be undertaken will be the construction of a new silo for the traffic of new cars in the amount of €16 million, which would be operational in 2022. Specifically, and following the announcement of this investment, the port of Santander has offered to organize a meeting on automobile and rail logistics in which the port sector would address the adaptation to the new challenges of the sector.

Apart from the car silo, the most noteworthy investments include the completion of work on the Raos 9 and the 1-4 Maliaño Piers.

Moreover, in 2021 the Port Authority has undertaken to approve the specifications for pilotage, towing and mooring services adapted to EU Regulation 2017/352 on Services, and to draw up a new assessment of land and water.

In the area of space planning, the Port Authority will declare the spaces occupied by the Horse Lighthouse in Santoña unnecessary for port activity and will tackle the project for the reorganisation of spaces in the Maliaño area, with the provision of a new semi-trailer car park.

Lastly, the port has reported that it will carry out a new simulation of BREXIT at the end of October in coordination with the shipping company, the State Security Forces and Corps, Customs and the areas of Foreign Health and Agriculture and Fisheries of the Delegation of the Government of Cantabria.
