The president of Puertos del Estado visits the Port of Marin

29-03-2022 The president of Puertos del Estado, Alvaro Rodriguez Dapena visited this morning the Port of Marin where he met with the president of the Port Authority, Jose Benito Suarez Costa and the management team of the entity.
During the meeting, the main projects underway in the port were discussed, such as the extension of the New Commercial Quay of Marin, the increase of draughts in the commercial area or the recent start up of a regular weekly railway line with the port of Algeciras for the transport of refrigerated goods.
The strategy for the search for logistics land in the port area with a view to the development of added value activities for the flow of goods in the port was also discussed.
The president of Puertos del Estado also discussed with the management team of the Port Authority of Marin and Ria de Pontevedra the situation of the land accesses to the port in terms of the increase of gauges for the reception and exportation of larger diameter wind turbine parts, as well as the need for electrification of the railway branch to the Port. In this sense, Rodriguez Dapena emphasised that Marin is the best example of the effort that the port system is making to strengthen and extend intermodal transport in our country.
At the meeting, other pending matters were reviewed, such as the extension of concession periods requested by various companies in the port or the need to establish a new dumping point for dredging material.
The President of Puertos del Estado then received business representatives from the port community, including the main shipping and stevedoring companies as well as the President of the Port Users Federation. The President of Puertos del Estado was interested in the problems being experienced by the users of the port of Marin due to the invasion of Ukraine and the energy repercussions.
Alvaro Rodriguez Dapena also took advantage of his stay in Marin to hold a working meeting with Maica Larriba, sub-delegate of the Government in the province of Pontevedra.
- VISIT TO THE PORT: RAIL CONNECTIONS, A COMPETITIVE STRENGTH
During his tour of the port facilities, the president of Puertos del Estado had the opportunity to visit the Port's railway terminal, which has 7,000 metres of track and the capacity to handle several compositions.
The Port of Marin is one of the main enclaves of the whole state port system in terms of percentage use of the railway with respect to its global freight traffic, which also places it as the leader in ship-rail intermodality in Galicia.
Suarez Costa explained the importance of this service for clients from the whole Peninsula, since goods as varied as agri-foodstuffs, steel coils, wood, cement or containers enter and leave Marín by train every day.
