Salvador de la Encina receives the new president of the Port Authority of Melilla, Víctor Gamero
Puertos del Estado and Melilla analyze the port's situation and its possible solutions
09-13-2019 (Ministry of Development). The president of Puertos del Estado, Salvador de la Encina, has received the recently appointed president of the Port Authority of Melilla, Víctor Gamero, with whom he has discussed various matters related to recent activity in the port precinct.
The president of Melilla's open bay has expressed his concern about the problems derived from the closed borders, as well as the main projects in which the port is currently involved and its financing needs.
Salvador de la Encina has confirmed Puertos del Estado's commitment to the port of Melilla, the true engine of Melilla's economy- which is nevertheless very problematic- through which more than a million tons of cargo are channeled each year and which receives more than 800 thousand passengers/year. "Melilla is an essential bridge between Europe and the African continent, and our objective is to continue our cooperation towards finding solutions to the challenges that arise" has stated the president of Puertos del Estado.
They have both arranged to hold another meeting in this autonomous city in the near future.
