Spanish ports strengthen their commercial activity to boost fresh produce traffic

•    The state-owned port system handled 10.25 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables in 2025

03-02-2026 (Puertos del Estado). Twelve ports from the Spanish state-owned port system will be present at the Fruit Logistica trade fair, within the Ports of Spain stand led by Puertos del Estado. The event will be held from 4 to 6 February in Berlin, with the aim of positioning Spanish ports at the heart of Europe as the best option for fresh produce traffic and boosting this trade.

Among the competitive advantages that Spanish ports will present to logistics chain stakeholders gathered in Berlin are: nearly 100 million m² of land area and storage yards; refrigerated warehouses with close to 2 million m³ of capacity; reefer connections; more than 390,000 linear metres of quay; connections with any port worldwide; reinforced Border Control Posts (BCPs) following the entry into force of the new model for border control services for goods; phytosanitary services; and all types of highly specialised logistics solutions for fruit and vegetable traffic.

In addition, the state-owned port system is committed to decarbonising the entire transport chain, with initiatives such as the development of new fuels, the use of renewable energies, onshore power supply connections for berthed vessels (OPS), as well as improved energy efficiency in logistics and refrigerated infrastructure.

Fruit Logistica is the leading event in the sector in Europe, with the participation of nearly 2,500 exhibiting companies from 90 countries across 26 halls, and an expected attendance of more than 90,000 professionals from 150 countries.

At the 132 m² Ports of Spain stand, under the slogan “Moving the best of nature”, numerous working meetings will be held by Puertos del Estado and the 12 participating ports (Almería, Algeciras, Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cartagena, Castellón, Huelva, Las Palmas, Málaga, Motril and Valencia).

On Wednesday, 4 February, the Port Authority of Valencia will give the presentation “Valenciaport: Where fresh moves fast” at the stand. In addition, a visit by a delegation from the Trade Office of the Embassy of Spain in Germany is scheduled for that day.

In 2025, traffic of this type of goods through Spanish ports exceeded 10.25 million tonnes. Although the Spanish port system is one of the leading systems in Europe for fresh produce traffic and has significant refrigerated infrastructure, lower volumes of exported fruit and vegetables and the weak performance of global trade in 2025 contributed to a decline in traffic of these goods at port terminals compared to the previous year.
