Circular economy initiatives

Waste generated in the port
Our goal is to improve the traceability of the waste generated in the port and increase the volume of waste that is segregated for recovery. We will ensure that 100% of the waste is delivered segregated to authorized managers.
Administrative regulation
Conditions in service and concession titles to ensure the collection, segregation, storage, and delivery of produced waste to authorized managers.
Operational regulation
Operational conditions for managing waste generated during port operations and maintenance tasks.
Inspection and control
Periodic verification of the waste accounting of port companies.
Equipment
Installation of recycling points.

Waste from ships
We contribute to reducing the discharge of waste from ships into the sea by encouraging the delivery of MARPOL waste at the port and integrating this waste into recovery chains.
Delivery of MARPOL waste
Port authorities will charge a mandatory fixed fee to ships docking at each port call, whether or not they use the service.
Incentive for better MARPOL waste management
A 20% discount on the fixed fee will be granted to ships that can demonstrate having procedures in place to generate reduced amounts of waste or to deliver waste separately.
Improving traceability
Companies providing MARPOL services must have an implemented and certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System that covers all procedures related to their activities.
End of waste status
Criteria to determine when recovered fuel from the treatment of MARPOL type C waste can be used as fuel for ships and is no longer considered waste.

Construction waste
We will promote, when technically feasible, the use of construction, demolition or excavated materials from urban public works in port infills as an alternative to quarry-sourced materials.
Contracting
In the contracting of construction projects, the use of this type of material is being included as a technical requirement.
Definition of material reception procedures
- Identification of origin: a sworn statement from the producer or initial holder of the excavated or demolition materials.
- Identification of the process: a sworn statement from the individual or entity that performs the recovery of the materials, ensuring compliance with the physical-chemical properties of the material.

Dredged material waste
We will promote productive uses of dredged material as a priority alternative to its disposal at sea, exploring new applications when beach nourishment is not feasible.
Obligation to study productive uses
For all dredged material classified as non-hazardous sediment, a study of alternative productive uses must be conducted as an alternative to disposal at sea.
Beach nourishment as the preferred use
The preferred productive use of dredged material with appropriate characteristics is beach nourishment.
Lack of productive use
The absence of a productive use must be justified in the project.
Productive use of Class C material
The only productive use for Class C material is port infill.
Working with nature
When filled with water and dredged material, the disposal site provides ecosystem services, serving as a nesting place for migratory birds.
Recovery of waste
The dried material can be used as construction aggregate or as material for manufacturing construction elements, including ceramic materials.
