Almería, May 12, 2022 (Mitma)
The Society of Maritime Rescue and Safety and the Public Body Ports of the State, both bodies dependent on the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, have signed today in Almería the addendum to the Framework Agreement for collaboration between Port Authorities (PA) and Maritime Rescue to rationalize the hiring in the provision of the general service of organization, coordination, and control of port maritime traffic, as well as for advising on matters of protection, coordination, and response to marine pollution incidents in emergency situations.
The president of Maritime Rescue and director-general of Merchant Marine, Benito Núñez Quintanilla, and the president of Ports of the State, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, have been responsible for signing the addendum to the Framework Agreement for collaboration held this morning at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Almería.
The objective of this agreement, which will have an initial duration of 4 years, automatically renewable for successive periods of 2 years, is to regulate in a homogeneous way the hiring conditions between the PAs and Maritime Rescue in order for the services to be provided in the most efficient way, with high standards of quality and safety.
The service charter includes advice on protection, coordination, and response to marine pollution incidents in emergency situations, as well as maritime traffic control services in the port.
In addition, Ports of the State undertakes to promote and strengthen collaboration between Maritime Rescue and PAs in the fight against accidental marine pollution.
Each Port Authority, independently, will subscribe to contracts with Maritime Rescue and may decide whether to include the entire portfolio of services proposed or only advisory and support tasks in pollution control operations. The Almería Port Authority will be one of the first to sign the contract, in accordance with the new addendum.
