Ports of general interest handled more than 511 million tonnes of goods up to November

•    Container traffic (TEUs) increased by 3.1% in the first eleven months of the year, driven by a 9% rise in import-export TEUs.
•    Passenger traffic through Spanish ports came close to 40 million movements.

23-12-2025 (Puertos del Estado). Ports of general interest handled 511,044,648 tonnes during the first eleven months of the year, representing a 0.4% decrease compared with the same period of the previous year, according to provisional data. These figures confirm a slow but steady recovery in traffic volumes following the downturn experienced until the end of the summer, mainly due to the stability of conventional general cargo and liquid bulk traffic.

General cargo reversed the downward trend, recording a 0.3% increase to 257.4 million tonnes in the first eleven months of the year. This performance was supported by a 3.9% rise in conventional general cargo, reaching 81.9 million tonnes, and a more moderate decline in containerised cargo, which fell by 1.3% to 175.5 million tonnes.

Container traffic measured in TEUs increased by 3.1%, totalling 17.2 million units, driven by the rise in import-export TEUs (+9%) and a milder decline in transhipment TEUs (-0.5%) compared with previous months.

Liquid bulk traffic continued to grow for the second consecutive month, with a 0.3% increase to 164.6 million tonnes, thanks to the recovery of gasoline, natural gas and chemical products. Solid bulk traffic recorded a 3.5% decrease, with a cumulative total of 75.2 million tonnes.

Ro-ro traffic increased by 2.9%, reaching 69.1 million tonnes compared with the same period of the previous year.

The number of merchant vessels calling at Spanish ports fell by 2.3%, to a total of 150,709 vessels, while gross tonnage increased by 0.8%.

Passenger traffic grew by 4.1% up to November compared with the same period in 2024, approaching 40 million passenger movements.
