Puertos del Estado authorizes the transfer of land occupied by the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria to its members
- This strategic process for both the club and the city consolidates its presence in one of the most iconic areas along the Las Palmas waterfront.
- The surface occupation title was granted in 1966 for the land located to the north of Las Alcaravaneras beach.
14 May 2025 (Puertos del Estado). At its first session chaired by Gustavo Santana, the Board of Directors of Puertos del Estado has authorized the direct transfer of disused public port land currently under concession to the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria (RCNGC).
The RCNGC has over 6,000 full members and around 20,000 individuals directly or indirectly linked to the club.
Following successive amendments to the legal framework governing port concessions, and with the concession’s expiration approaching, both Puertos del Estado and the Las Palmas Port Authority have accelerated procedures to ensure the club's continued presence at its historic location.
The process began in 2021 under the presidency of Luis Ibarra at the Las Palmas Port Authority and was continued by the current president, Beatriz Calzada.
Once all administrative procedures were completed—including reports from the Directorate-General for State Heritage and the Directorate-General for the Coast and the Sea, regarding the protection and preservation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain—it became possible to agree on a viable solution for the club’s permanence, which also recognizes its valuable social role on the island.
Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria
By Ministerial Order dated 30 March 1966, the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria (RCNGC) was granted a 99-year administrative concession to occupy a 7,657 m² plot of public port land located at the northern end of Las Alcaravaneras Beach (now Functional Area 12 within the Port of Las Palmas service zone), for the development of club facilities and services.
At present, the public port area occupied by the RCNGC totals 47,900.35 m², comprising 22,349 m² of land (13,120 m² of land and 9,229 m² of reclaimed areas) and 25,551.35 m² of water surface (23,259.35 m² of water area and 2,292 m² of pontoons).
The concession would have expired on 1 January 2028, marking the end of the 35-year term established following the enactment of Law 27/1992.
