The State Ports Authority to launch a public consultation to renew its tide gauge network with the most advanced technology

17-01-2024 (Puertos del Estado Public Entity). The State Ports Authority is holding an Open Day in order to learn about the state-of-the-art technology in sea level monitoring, turbulence and other related parameters, for possible use in Spanish state-owned ports.
The event, which will be held on February 14 both in person at the headquarters of the public body and online, is an initiative open to all interested institutions and economic operators. It is being held with the aim of promoting, learning about and disseminating technological innovation in the field, stimulating public-private collaboration and contributing to the future development of the REDMAR tide gauge network, which has been managed by the State Ports Authority since 1992 and currently consists of 41 stations installed in Spanish ports of general interest.
As the State Ports Authority is aware of the need to address this renovation, improvement and development process in REDMAR, after more than 30 years of operation, and to guarantee its continuity with the most efficient and advanced technology and the highest quality standards, it has considered it appropriate to initiate a preliminary dialogue with the market.
In this regard, the roadmap for REDMAR's renovation, improvement, and development, including the installation of redundant sea level sensors in accordance with the recommendations of the GLOSS (Global Sea Level Observing System) program, will be presented during the event.
This initiative is also in line with the current context of climate change, in which it is particularly important to have accurate measurements of possible changes in sea level associated with climate change to assess the impacts on ports (both in their infrastructure and their level of operation) and anticipate the appropriate measures for adaptation.
Likewise, the future renewal, improvement and development of REDMAR, which begins with this open dialogue, must ensure the pioneering and strategic nature of this network as a reflection of the State Ports Authority's role in the development of measurement systems and operational techniques in oceanography and marine climatology with an unquestionable impact on port infrastructures and their management.
