•    In 2024, Spanish ports handled 557.8 million tonnes, representing a 2.6% increase compared to 2023.
•    The publication also includes the technical characteristics of the ports, which reflect Spain's overall national port capacity.

01-10-2025 (Puertos del Estado). Puertos del Estado has published the Statistical Yearbook of the Spanish State-Owned Port System for 2024, containing complete information on Spanish ports. In addition, the Annual Data Dashboard (1962–2024) has been updated, offering interactive access to all port traffic data and enabling comparisons.

The 2024 Statistical Yearbook mainly compiles analyzed data on cargo traffic, container traffic, vessel calls, and passenger movements across the 28 Port Authorities of general interest, as well as the technical characteristics of the ports.

Final figures for 2024 confirm that the year closed with 557.8 million tonnes of cargo handled, an increase of 2.6% compared to 2023. Although total traffic did not surpass the all-time high reached in 2019 (564.6 million tonnes), general cargo reached a record level, driven mainly by the rebound in transshipment containers.

In terms of passengers, a new historic record was achieved. In 2024, Spanish ports handled 40.9 million passengers, 4% more than in 2023.

Regarding national port capacity, the 46 ports of general interest collectively provide nearly 100 million square meters of land surface and storage areas.

These figures confirm that maritime freight transport remains essential for trade in Spain. Its advantages over other modes include lower unit costs for long distances, the ability to move large volumes, and being one of the safest and least polluting modes of transport. Approximately 76% of imports and 55% of exports in Spain are carried out by sea.
