  • At the ‘Ports of Spain’ stand, presentations will highlight various initiatives aimed at advancing greener cruise tourism that benefits everyone

13-04-2026 (Puertos del Estado). Puertos del Estado and Spain’s ports of general interest are participating, starting today, in the world’s largest cruise industry trade fair, Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, taking place from 13 to 16 April.

At the Ports of Spain stand, coordinated by State Ports and attended by its President, Gustavo Santana, 23 Port Authorities will gather under the slogan “Make your landing unforgettable” to present their latest developments to cruise lines in infrastructure, sustainability, and cruise tourism services.

Passenger traffic through Spanish ports exceeded 14 million in 2025. Spain thus ranks among the world’s leading destinations for this type of travel, with an increasingly diversified range of port calls.

Participation in Seatrade Cruise Global provides Spanish ports with access to a global showcase featuring more than 650 exhibitors, over 75 cruise lines, 128 countries, and more than 11,500 attendees. The Ports of Spain stand covers more than 400 m², offering a space to present the competitive advantages of including Spanish ports in cruise itineraries.

In addition to business meetings, several presentations will take place at the stand. On Tuesday 14, at the Ports of Spain stand, the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will present at 11:30 a.m. “Ports, Islands and Communities: Building Destination from the Ports of Tenerife.” This will be followed at 12:00 p.m. by the Port Authority of Las Palmas, which will present its proposal for Seatrade Med 2026, with the Port of Las Palmas as the official host of this key event for the cruise industry in the Mediterranean and adjacent seas, held in September.

At 12:30 p.m., the Port Authority of Seville will present “Seville Port Cruise Terminal: A New Approach to Cruise and Megayacht Tourism in the Heart of Andalusia,” a strong commitment to the city, integration with the province, and enhancing the passenger experience.

Next, at 1:00 p.m., the Port Authority of Almería will present “Port of Almería: Redefining Cruise Tourism,” highlighting its commitment to a more sustainable, responsible, and efficient port.

The final presentation of the day, at 3:00 p.m., will be delivered by the Port Authorities of Ferrol, Seville, and Las Palmas at the Global Ports stand.

The second day, Wednesday the 15th, will begin with a working breakfast (8:00 a.m.) at the Botanical Garden, organized by Turespaña, in collaboration with State Ports. During this event, Port Authorities will meet with cruise line itinerary planners to finalize 2028 itineraries. The Spanish Tourism Counsellor in Miami, Elvira Marcos, and the President of State Ports will welcome attendees. This will be followed, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., by an institutional visit and greeting at the Ports of Spain stand by the Consul General of Spain in Miami, Belén Alfaro.

Presentations will continue at the Ports of Spain stand with the Port of Valencia at 11:00 a.m., showcasing its provincial excursion offerings: “Uncover the Charm: Valencia Province at Your Fingertips.” At 12:00 p.m., the Port of A Coruña will present its project for a major tourism event in 2026, “Solar Eclipse and Port Calls.” The port city in northwestern Spain is positioning itself as one of the best destinations in Europe to observe the total solar eclipse on 12 August.

At 1:00 p.m., State Ports will host the traditional Institutional Cocktail at the Spain pavilion, including official remarks from the authorities present at the stand.

At the same time, the President of State Ports will hold various meetings with operators and institutional representatives from the sector to identify synergies and promote the value of Spanish ports as strategic cruise destinations, as well as their commitment to sustainable growth that benefits all stakeholders.

The cruise industry has a significant impact on Spain’s economy and employment. In 2023, it contributed more than €3.2 billion to GDP and supported around 52,000 jobs, according to the “Study on the Economic Impact of Ports of General Interest on the Spanish Economy,” prepared by State Ports.

State Ports and the Spanish port system are working to ensure sustainable growth in this sector by involving cruise lines, the port community, and local institutions. To this end, plans are already underway for decarbonization, including the electrification of berths to supply ships with electricity from renewable sources, reducing emissions and noise. Additional initiatives include port-city integration projects and the adoption of innovative technologies and digitalization to enhance the cruise passenger experience and their interaction with local communities.
