Puertos del Estado Strengthens Its Commitment to Offshore Wind at WindEurope

•    “The Spanish port system has the capacity to become a key logistics hub in the offshore wind value chain,” said President Gustavo Santana.

21-04-2026 (Puertos del Estado). Puertos del Estado and Spain’s ports of general interest are participating from today until Thursday, 23 April, in WindEurope—one of the leading international events in the wind energy sector—to highlight the strategic role of Spanish ports in the development of offshore wind and the energy transition.

At the Ports of Spain stand, coordinated by Puertos del Estado, nine Port Authorities are represented: A Coruña, Almería, Avilés, Cartagena, Castellón, Ferrol, Gijón, Las Palmas and Tarragona. They will hold meetings with leading companies in the sector with the aim of strengthening partnerships and attracting new projects to Spanish ports.

The state-owned port system plays a key role in offshore wind, not only as hubs for assembly and cargo handling operations, but also as centres of industrial innovation.

“The Spanish port network has the capacity to become a key logistics hub in the offshore wind value chain. We have competitive infrastructure, logistics expertise, and a strong commitment to sustainability,” stated the President of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana.

Within the framework of this event, it is also worth highlighting the Port EOL-Mar call, a public funding programme launched by IDAE (Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy) under Spain’s Recovery Plan. Its main objective is to adapt port infrastructure (quays, yards, access routes, draughts, etc.) to enable the deployment of marine renewable energy, particularly offshore wind. With a budget of €212 million, the projects submitted by Port Authorities are currently under evaluation, taking into account factors such as industrial impact and job creation.

Participation in WindEurope 2026—which is expected to bring together more than 600 exhibitors and 16,000 attendees—is part of Puertos del Estado’s strategy to position Spain as a European benchmark in renewable energy and the blue economy, actively contributing to the European Union’s decarbonisation and energy autonomy goals.

With this presence, Puertos del Estado reaffirms its commitment to sustainability. The port system’s Horizonte 2030 Plan includes investments of over €1 billion in the coming years, which will help consolidate the role of ports as drivers of the energy transition.
