
Spanish ports position themselves as a key player in the logistics chain for fresh produce
- The state-owned port system moved nearly 12 million tons of fruits and vegetables in 2023

Fifteen ports of the state-owned system will be present at the Fruit Attraction fair, within the "Ports of Spain" booth led by Puertos del Estado, which will be held from October 8th to 10th in Madrid. The goal: to boost the maritime traffic of fruits and vegetables through its hubs by showcasing the competitive advantages of their infrastructure and service offerings to importers and exporters from around the world.
Spanish ports offer nearly 100 million square meters of land and storage areas, refrigerated warehouses with a capacity of nearly 2 million cubic meters, almost 395,000 linear meters of berths, connections to any port in the world, border control posts (BCP), phytosanitary services and all kinds of logistical solutions.
Additionally, the state-owned port system is committed to the decarbonization of the entire transport chain, with initiatives such as the development of new fuels or electrical connections to docked ships (OPS).
Fruit Attraction has established itself as the international reference fair in the horticultural sector, with the presence of 2,146 exhibiting companies and an expected attendance of over 100,000 professionals from 145 countries.
In the 215-square-meter "Ports of Spain" booth, under the claim "Connecting the world to fresh food" numerous business meetings will be held by Puertos del Estado and the 15 participating ports (Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cádiz, Cartagena, Castellón, Huelva, Las Palmas, Málaga, Motril, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia, and Vigo).
In 2023, the fruit and vegetable traffic through Spanish ports reached 11.9 million tons, surpassing the 11.11 million of 2022. Between January and August this year, 7.75 million tons of these products have been handled by the ports.
