Spanish ports seek to boost fresh produce traffic at Fruit Attraction

More than 8 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables were moved through ports between January and August

03-10-2023 (State Ports Public Body). 16 ports of the state-owned system are present at the Fruit Attraction Fair, within the 'Ports of Spain' booth, which will be held from 3 to 5 October in Madrid. The goal: To boost the maritime traffic of fruit and vegetables through its enclaves, presenting the competitive advantages of its offer of infrastructures and services to importers and exporters around the world.

Thus, Spanish ports offer more than 85 million m2of land area and storage areas, cold stores with nearly 2 million m3  of capacity, more than 300,000 linear meters of berth, connections with any port in the world, border control posts (PCF), phytosanitary services, and all kinds of logistics solutions.

The Fruit Attraction fair, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, has established itself as one of the leading fairs in the sector worldwide, with the presence of 2,000 exhibiting companies from 56 countries, more than 64,000 m2 of surface area and the expected attendance of 90,000 professionals from 135 countries.

At the 200 sqm Puertos del Estado booth, under the claim 'Connecting the world to fresh food', numerous working meetings will be held from the 16 ports present (Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cadiz, Cartagena, Castellón, Huelva, Las Palmas, Malaga, Motril, Santander, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia and Vigo). Likewise, the progress of the SIMPLE project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Adif and Puertos del Estado, which is developing a national intermodal logistics platform to guarantee interoperability between the different actors and means of transport, will be presented.

 

MORE THAN 8 MILLION TONNES OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES UP TO AUGUST

Between January and August 2023, traffic in this type of product reached 8.3 million tonnes, of which 3.7 million tonnes were landed without transit, i.e. imports for domestic consumption. Algeciras and Valencia are at the forefront of this traffic.

In 2022 as a whole, Spanish ports moved 11.11 million tonnes of fruit, vegetables and legumes.
