04-04-2024 (Puertos del Estado Public Entity). The Government Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, José Antonio Sebastián, addressed the current situation and future of the corridor today in separate meetings with the Port Authorities of A Coruña and Ferrol, during which he expressed a commitment to work towards resolving the pending issues.
Accompanied by the president of State Ports, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, and the Government Delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, Sebastián met in A Coruña with the president of the Port Authority, Martín Fernández Prado, with whom he analyzed the actions to be taken to promote the development of the Northwest Atlantic Corridor and ensure efficient connections with all of northern Spain and Portugal, on par with the rest of the European corridors.
Also on the table was the project for the southern access to the Outer Port, which is necessary to provide a direct connection between Punta Langosteira and the Atlantic Axis, and is planned to be funded by the Next Generation EU funds to complete the railway access project to the Outer Port.
Subsequently, the Atlantic Corridor Commissioner, the President of State Ports and the Government Delegate travelled to the Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao, where they held a meeting with Francisco Barea, President of the Port Authority. Sebastián responded to the Port Authority's request to learn firsthand about the development plans for this infrastructure.
"The port of Ferrol is working intensively on establishing intermodality and promoting new traffic flows." We are one of the main freight transport agents in Galicia with growth expectations. This makes us an attractive option for the establishment of new industries that need adequate infrastructure and railway connections. This is a fundamental infrastructure for our future," indicated the Port Authority President.
For this reason, Barea emphasized the importance of the port authority in promoting northern Galicia and stressed the need to set the development goals of the Port of Ferrol with a 2030 horizon, as having to wait would mean "loss of competitiveness." {1 For their part, both the Atlantic Corridor Commissioner and the State Ports President emphasized their commitment to advancing the common goal of promoting the role of ports as drivers of economic and social development.
