February 28, 2022. The President of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, visited the Port of Castellón today to get firsthand information on its strategic projects. The visit began with a working meeting with the Board of Directors, the Works Committee, and representatives of the Port Community, in which the President of PortCastelló, Rafa Simó, outlined the state of the productive infrastructures promoted to gain competitiveness and efficiency in terms of land and rail connectivity.

They also addressed the take-off and enhancement of the southern dock through the Octopus project, which will facilitate attracting new investments to increase the productive fabric of Castellón. This project involves gaining 420,000 m2 from the sea, which, added to the already available land, will amount to 700,000 m2 to develop industrial projects that will help consolidate the Castellón port area as an industrial, chemical, and technology-focused hub on new and sustainable fuels.

During the meeting, Rafa Simó highlighted the PortCastelló 2030 challenge, which aims to reach 30 million tons in freight traffic, attract 30 million in external annual investment, develop 30 social projects per year, as well as reduce energy consumption by 30% and emissions by 30%.

The President of Puertos del Estado, on his part, emphasized the great interest and involvement demonstrated by the Port Community in the development of all projects, stating that "the contribution of the private sector is essential to face the challenges we are facing."

Following this meeting, the President of Puertos del Estado toured the two docks of PortCastelló to see on-site environmental protection actions of the port, such as particle meters, windbreak screens, and wheel washers for trucks transporting goods within the port area.

Finally, Álvaro Rodríguez signed the Honor Book of the Port Authority and participated in the Board of Directors.
