The president of Puertos del Estado is interested in the port-city integration model being developed by the Port Authority of Alicante

Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena meets with the president and the management team of the Port Authority, as well as representatives of the Port Community. The president has shown interest in the comprehensive integration strategy that the port is implementing to become a social and economic engine for the city.

March 23, 2022. The president of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, visited the Port of Alicante today, accompanied by the president of the Port Authority, Julián López Milla.

Upon arrival in Alicante, and after signing the guestbook, Rodríguez Dapena held a meeting with the management team, where he learned about the strategic projects currently underway that are turning the port of Alicante into an example of integration within the city.

Projects such as the expansion of the Port Park or the renovation of the inner dock, which will provide the city with a first-class maritime front, or those focused on promoting the establishment of logistics and technological profile companies, such as the investments made by the Digital District of the Valencian Community, or the transformation of the former Panoramis shopping center into coworking space and flexible office center.

Rodríguez Dapena emphasized the importance of Ports and Cities working together to achieve full integration and a port open to citizens, so that the public takes ownership of the port and is aware of the socio-economic relevance of the port enclave.

In this regard, López Milla highlighted that the port is immersed in a magnificent evolutionary process, the results of which are beginning to be seen, and that will continue with the strengthening of traffic and the occupation of the port's public domain. Proof of this is the consolidation of feeder traffic with Algeciras, the addition of new lines to the port of Alicante (Tanger), the increase in container traffic, and the recovery of cruise traffic.

A PORT COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY

After the meeting with the management team, the president of Puertos del Estado held a meeting with representatives of the Port Community, in which the commitment to sustainability was highlighted, especially in a port so close to the city, and the need to continue applying sustainable management policies and ecological transition, both by the Port Authority and the companies operating in the port.

Issues such as growth and development expectations for the port and current issues in the logistics chain were also discussed.

THE DIGITAL DISTRICT AND THE NEW BULK TERMINAL HIGHLIGHT THE VISIT TO THE FACILITIES

The commitment to innovation also marked the day; during the tour of the port, both presidents visited the facilities of the company Accenture, one of the first to establish itself in the port through the initiative undertaken with the Digital District to attract companies to the city of Alicante, and which is located on the ground floor of the cruise terminal.

Subsequently, they visited the new bulk terminal, a closed, fully automated warehouse, with which the port will make the movement of solid bulk goods more environmentally sustainable, thanks to a significant private investment by the multinational company EIFFAGE.

The tour concluded at the container terminal of the company Maritime Terminals of the Southeast (TMS), where one of the most innovative projects supported by the port under the Ports 4.0 program is being developed.
