The President of Puertos del Estado learns about the growth projects of the Port of Huelva

Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena and Pilar Miranda meet with entrepreneurs from the port community.

February 24, 2022. The President of the Public Body Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, visited the Port of Huelva today, where he learned about the growth projects of the Huelva port basin, accompanied by the President of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda.

The South Dock of the Port of Huelva, where the intermodal platform of the Huelva port is located, encompasses the main projects related to the commitment to diversify activities, such as the extension of the dock, which will increase the berthing line by an additional 525 meters and will allow the space dedicated to container movement to be increased by 225,000 square meters, in addition to doubling the number of vessels that can dock simultaneously.

In this regard, the President of Puertos del Estado learned about the progress of the expansion works of the South Dock, which are expected to be completed during this semester, as well as the works of the Multifunctional Building. This space will host a terminal for embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, as well as areas to accommodate port services and control and inspection services of the Police and customs.

The Multifunctional Building, which will consist of three floors, will occupy a total area of ​​over 2,300 square meters on the esplanade of the South Dock next to the existing ro-ro ramp, where ferries connecting Huelva with the Canary Islands dock. Its completion is scheduled for this summer.

The President of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, thanked the President of Puertos del Estado for his visit to the port of Huelva, as well as his support for the 2022 Business Plan and various strategic projects for the growth of the port in the logistics-port sector and in the framework of port-city relations. In this context, the President of the Port of Huelva stated that "it is essential for administrations to work together to generate synergies for the development of the port to contribute to attracting new investments that generate wealth and employment in Huelva."

For his part, the President of Puertos del Estado thanked the hospitality of the Huelva port and added that the strategy of Puertos del Estado is aimed at promoting sustainable development in the general interest ports under the Public Ports Body of Puertos del Estado.

During the visit, they also discussed the opportunities in terms of innovation, digitization, and added value that the world's first Fiware port innovation hub will generate for the Port of Huelva, which will be managed by Telefónica in the technological innovation hub that will host the first plant of the fish market.

Likewise, the top representatives of Puertos del Estado and the Port of Huelva have also held a meeting with entrepreneurs from the port community, representing the companies with the highest activity in the Huelva port.

The President of Puertos del Estado and the President of the Port of Huelva were accompanied by the Director of the Port of Huelva, Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, and the Head of the Port Community Services Area at Puertos del Estado, Jaime Luezas.

During the visit to the headquarters of the Port Authority of Huelva, the President of Puertos del Estado signed the guestbook and later held a meeting with the Management Committee of the Port Authority of Huelva.
