Puertos del Estado and WISTA sign collaboration agreement to promote the role of women in the maritime sector

  • The signed protocol includes joint activities to highlight and strengthen the presence of women in the port sector.

May 21, 2024 (Puertos del Estado Public Entity). The President of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, and the President of WISTA Spain, Rosana Velasco, have signed a protocol to reinforce the role of women in the maritime sector.

The protocol includes collaboration initiatives to jointly develop activities that promote, support, and raise awareness of the role of women in improving the maritime sector. These actions include meetings, exchanges of experiences and contacts, and other forms of highlighting the role of women in the port sector.

This agreement reflects Puertos del Estado's commitment to equality, work-life balance, and inclusion, as outlined in the Strategic Framework, specifically in general management objective 16.2, "to be inclusive and promote equality," prioritizing actions to achieve gender parity.

One of the quantitative goals of this framework is achieving gender parity within the port system at all levels by 2030. While Puertos del Estado has already reached a 50% balance of men and women, there is still significant progress to be made in the ports and the broader logistics-port sector.

WISTA Spain is the Spanish section of WISTA International, an association that supports and empowers women in management and decision-making positions within the maritime industry and international trade.
