Puertos del Estado promotes sustainability and logistics innovation at SIL Barcelona

•    President Gustavo Santana highlights “the commitment of the Spanish port system to increasingly digital, efficient and sustainable logistics”.
•    Spanish ports will showcase progress in digitalisation and energy transition through a range of working sessions and meetings.

03-06-2026 (Puertos del Estado). Puertos del Estado is taking part, from today until 5 June, in SIL Barcelona, the leading trade fair for logistics, transport, intralogistics and supply chain management.

From the stand of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Spanish port system is showcasing its competitiveness in terms of digitalisation, efficiency, innovation and sustainability. In particular, the focus is on the commitment of Spain’s ports of general interest to integrating innovative technological solutions and clean energy use, enabling port communities to remain competitive in a rapidly changing global environment.

During the welcoming event at the stand, the President of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana, highlighted “the commitment of the Spanish port system to increasingly digital, efficient and sustainable logistics in a context marked by the need to strengthen supply chain resilience”. He also stressed that “we are promoting investments to improve infrastructure and connectivity, supporting digitalisation and the development of smart ports, and advancing greener ports, always with the aim of enhancing competitiveness and continuing to deliver value to society”.

Throughout the three-day event, Puertos del Estado and the participating Port Authorities will take part in several working sessions focused on sector digitalisation, the response of logistics chains to disruptions, the role of women in the logistics sector, smart logistics, and the importance of ship-rail intermodality.

In addition, Santana will participate in the second edition of the Corredores 2026 Awards ceremony, which recognises innovation and sustainability in multimodal and rail transport — a key infrastructure enabling ports to provide fast connectivity and ensure continuity throughout the logistics chain.

More than 600 companies are attending SIL to present their latest developments, focused on initiatives such as shore-side electrification, the use of artificial intelligence for decision-making, drone-based air logistics, artificial vision, smart grids, and automated measurement systems for oversized cargo.

The Spanish port system is a key node within the Trans-European Transport Networks and the main logistics hub in Southern Europe for international freight trade, with connections to more than 200 ports worldwide and high-quality services for all types of cargo traffic.
