Spain and Portugal to share data on ocean currents
25-05-2023 (State Ports Public Body). The Hydrographic Institute of Portugal, the Institute for the Control of the Marine Environment of Galicia and Puertos del Estado have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of information from high-frequency radar measuring stations for measuring surface currents after the collaboration maintained in the Radar-On-Raia project, funded by the Spain-Portugal Interreg Cross-Border Cooperation Programme (POCTEP).
This agreement will guarantee the regular flow of data from the high-frequency radar stations that currently make up the Northern Portugal-Galicia network, a cross-border measurement system called RAIA_NW_Iberian, will facilitate remote access and exchange of raw data generated by the high-frequency radar stations and will make available the information resulting from the different maintenance actions.
The Memorandum highlights the existing interest on the part of the signatory entities in terms of the current situation of collaboration, use and distribution of the data measured by the teams managed individually by each institution and their products jointly, guaranteeing their quality and promoting the use and dissemination of the same in all areas of interest to society.
