Spanish ports reinforce Fruit Logistica's commitment to fresh produce traffic

  • The state-owned port system moved almost 12 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables in 2023

06-02-2024 (Puertos del Estado Public Entity). 14 ports of the state-owned system are present at the Fruit Attraction Fair, within the 'Ports of Spain' stand, which will be held from 7 to 9 October in Madrid. The goal: To boost the maritime traffic of fruit and vegetables through its enclaves, presenting the competitive advantages of its offer of infrastructures and services to importers and exporters around the world.

Thus, Spanish ports offer more than 85 million m2of land area and storage areas, cold stores with nearly 2 million m3 of capacity, more than 300.000 linear meters of berth, connections with any port in the world, border control posts (PCF), phytosanitary services, and all kinds of logistics solutions.

The Fruit Logistica fair is the main event of the sector in Europe, with the presence of 2,750 exhibiting companies in 26 halls, and the expected attendance of more than 63,000 professionals from 140 countries.

At the 132 m2 Ports of Spain stand, under the claim 'Connecting the world to fresh food', numerous working meetings will be held from the 14 ports present (Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cadiz, Cartagena, Castellón, Huelva, Las Palmas, Malaga, Motril, Santander, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia and Vigo). In addition, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Spain in Germany, Mario Buisán, will visit the representatives of the port system present at the stand.

In 2023, the traffic of this type of product through Spanish ports reached 11.9 million tonnes, exceeding the 11.11 million tonnes of 2022. Of this figure, almost half, 5.4 million, were landed without transit, that is, for domestic consumption. Algeciras and Valencia are at the forefront of this traffic.
